Marc Cooper ... Blues jazz rocker with a mission.
Marc Cooper's career, performing his brand of eclectic guitar and vocal music, has taken him around the globe to 60 different countries, from Japan all the way to Australia; from South Africa throughout Europe to Russia, along with North and South America.
Coop has performed with a variety of musicians such as Joe Walsh (Eagles), Steve Howe (Yes/Asia), Danny Gatton, Nik West (Prince), Brett Garsed, Jennifer Batten, Seymour Duncan, Pat Travers, Buster B. Jones, Michel Cusson, Alain Caron, Rhonda Smith and Kat Dyson (Prince),
Thom Bresh, Andy Timmons, Nik West, Narada Michael Walden, Gregg Bissonnette, Carmine Appice, Alphonso Johnson, (Santana, Weather Report) Uli Jon Roth, and Yngwie Malmsteen to name a few. While touring Turkey, with drum sensation Dom Famularo and Asim Can (Awesome John), they performed on Istanbul TV for the Sky Network which reached 120 million people in Europe. In Nashville at the summer NAMM show in 2004, Coop was thrilled to perform for guitar giant Les Paul. In 2009 at the All Star Guitar Night he performed alongside Tommy Emmanuel, Ben Lacy, Jay Roberts, Danny Gottlieb, and a host of other great players. In 2014 Coop opened for Tower of Power, and later that year for Elvin Bishop and harp legend James Cotton, and in January 2015, it was Coop's second time with Pat Travers. He has also performed with Don Potter over a series of many years, and has produced and performed with Brian & Jenn Johnson, Kim Walker, Chris Quilala, Rich Severson, studio guitar legend Mitch Holder, Reggie Coates, Bishop Joseph Garlington, and many others.
Coop's project, Marc Cooper & CoopDeVille is Coop’s blues passion.
In 2013 his first solo CD/DVD was entitled "Alive & Burning Blues Sessions" and is available right here in the CoopDeVille store .
Coop is the author of eight guitar instructional books & CDs.
His NEWEST e-book is entitled, " The Art of Guitar" and is available here.
Two of his guitar books, “Blues Jam Along” and “Hard Rock Jam Along” have been published by Music Sales /Amsco publishing and sold worldwide.
He also has a World music (think West Meets Middle East) project called the Gypsy Syndicate. A Debut CD has been recorded and will be released in 2019.
Early in his career Coop was awarded a quarter finalist award in the prestigious American Song Festival, while living back in Canada, and won 1st place in the Hot Guitarist Contest at the 1994 NAMM show in Anaheim, CA. This contest was open to professional guitarists from all over the world.
Coop has taught guitar classes at colleges and conferences as far away as China, Singapore, Australia, throughout Europe, North and South America. He himself has studied guitar with Don Mock, Howard Roberts, Mick Goodrick, Steve Morse, Pat Martino, Joe Diorio, Robben Ford, Ron Eschete, Carl Schroeder, Joe Pass, Tommy Tedesco, Steve Trovato, Daniel Gilbert, Keith Wyatt, Howard Alden and a variety of other fine music educators. He's very proud to be one of the earlier graduates of Musicians Institute, going to GIT when it was still above the Hollywood wax museum on Hollywood Blvd.
Over the years Coop has consulted with, done artist guitar and vocal clinics, tours, and numerous R&D for these fine companies: Digitech, Godin guitars, Fernandes guitars, TC Electronic, TC Helicon, Roland, Bolt amps, Morpheus pedals, Lexicon, DBX, Fishman (Triple Play guitar synth), AXON Terratec (guitar synth modules AX-100 and AX 50) and for Willcox Acoustic Guitars and basses.
